What are contraceptive injections?
  • There are two types of contraceptive injections:
    -    Progesterone injections
    -    Progesterone and estrogen injections
  • The woman receives the injection every month for the next three months, depending on the injection; the progesterone injection is injected in the muscle within the first five days of the menstrual period; other types of injections are injected during a three month period
What are the advantages?
  • After the injection there is no need for any other procedure until the next injection
  • They can ease painful periods
  • There is no intercourse interference in order to use the contraception
What are the disadvantages?
  • They don’t prevent sexually spread diseases
  • They must be injected by specialized persons
  • They can cause bleeding outside the menstrual periods
  • Return of fertility and regular periods could take for up to one year after stopping the treatment with contraceptive injections
The level of effectiveness for contraceptive injections is 99%
