What is a femidom (femalecondom)?
  • It is a tube which contains lubricant and it is closed on one side
  • It is inserted in the vagina and stops the sperm from contacting the skin, and its contact with the eggs
  • It is inserted for up to four hours before the intercourse and it prevents sexually spread diseases including HIV
What are the advantages of female condoms?
  • They enable prevention from sexually spread diseases, including HIV, and protection from unwilling pregnancy
  • It enables the woman to take responsibility for safe sex
  • There are no side-effects
  • It is used during sexual contacts only
What are the disadvantages of female condoms?
  • They aren’t widely available
  • For effective prevention they should be used with other methods of contraception
  • Putting them on interferes the intercourse
  • If they aren’t used regularly, they could burst or fall out
The level of effectiveness of female condoms is 95%
