What is diaphragm?
- It is a latex barrier, tower shaped and 5-10 cm wide. It covers the cervix and presents a barrier between the eggs and the sperm
- It is inserted before the intercourse and applied with spermicidal lubricant. It is removed at least six hours after the sexual intercourse
What are the advantages?
- There are no side-effects
- It helps during protection from cervical cancer
- It is used during a sexual intercourse only
What are the disadvantages?
- It doesn’t prevent sexually spread diseases
- It can be unreliable and requires careful handling
- For its first time, it is inserted by a specialized person
- The procedure is done during a sexual intercourse
The level of effectiveness for diaphragm is 85-98%
