What is a femidom (femalecondom)?
- It is a tube which contains lubricant and it is closed on one side
- It is inserted in the vagina and stops the sperm from contacting the skin, and its contact with the eggs
- It is inserted for up to four hours before the intercourse and it prevents sexually spread diseases including HIV
What are the advantages of female condoms?
- They enable prevention from sexually spread diseases, including HIV, and protection from unwilling pregnancy
- It enables the woman to take responsibility for safe sex
- There are no side-effects
- It is used during sexual contacts only
What are the disadvantages of female condoms?
- They aren’t widely available
- For effective prevention they should be used with other methods of contraception
- Putting them on interferes the intercourse
- If they aren’t used regularly, they could burst or fall out
The level of effectiveness of female condoms is 95%
